And now for something completely uplifting. I just And now for something completely uplifting. I just listened to the latest episode of The Unlikely Artist. It’s one of my most enjoyable interviews ever, and I promise you’ll feel better when you finish listening to it.

Alex Moore-Gibson is a great storyteller and a truly joyful soul. Her story about her journey with cancer will make you want to smile all day. (That’s sentence I never thought I would write.)

I met Alex when I was jurying new artists for the Prince Edward County Studio Tour. When I heard Alex talk about the origin of her art, I knew I had to have her on the podcast to share what happened with you.

At 33 Alex faced down something that no one her age should have to - a diagnosis of stage three breast cancer. She went through panic and upset and a lot of soul searching.

In the end she was left with an urgent need to create. And so she did. Joyful paintings, a reconfigured life that allowed her abundant studio time, an Instagram following that multiplied as Alex documented her journey, and a thriving art business that grew organically.

Tune in. Feel better. Let a sense of possibility ripple through your body.

Sometimes for me, gathering up enough energy to wa Sometimes for me, gathering up enough energy to walk out my front door’s the hardest part. Every cell in my body wants me to stay inside, cozy warm, cradle a hot cup of coffee.

The days where I’m struggling the most with my work are the hardest.

I scold myself. You should be farther along! You need to respond to those emails! You need to post about that idea you had two weeks ago! You need put your nose down and actually get something accomplished!

My inner critic is cranky, frustrated and sarcastic.

I keep my head down trying to progress things. But I’m mostly worrying. It all feels overwhelming.

Another part of me starts begging. Please. Please. PLEASE! Just go outside.

I can’t remember a time I’ve actually walked out the door and not felt better in just a few minutes.

Something about this scene yesterday put a lump in my throat. I’d placed chairs here last summer. An invitation to visitors to rest, write, or just take in the sunset.

Ahhh… summer.

And now on a blue sky winter afternoon, tree shadows pull me beyond the chairs, up the trees, and into the sun. The air is crisp but I feel warm inside.

I return home. I’m reenergized. Ideas are bubbling up. I’m ready to work.

A change of scenery can reboot your brain.

Imagine what could happen if you brought your business team, your clients, a group of friends, your photography club here for some outside time. Some time to explore, to reflect, to come together in a new way. Imagine what possibilities could be created. Imagine what could shift if you spent a morning, an afternoon, a day here, rebooting all of your brains.
